Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in Roseville, CA — Heather Moore, LMFT

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an evidence-informed approach that combines therapeutic ketamine with psychotherapy to accelerate breakthroughs and create lasting shifts. I'm Heather Moore, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Roseville, CA, and I offer KAP for clients who've done the work, tried the traditional routes, and still feel stuck…particularly women healing complex trauma, childhood wounds, and generational patterns. Sessions available in person in Roseville and via telehealth throughout California.

Who Is KAP Designed For?

KAP is especially effective for people who have already tried traditional therapy and still feel like something won't move. If you've gained insight but can't seem to get past a certain point — particularly around deep trauma, persistent depression, anxiety, or patterns that feel hardwired — KAP creates the neurological conditions for deeper, faster change. "KAP doesn't replace the therapeutic work — it creates a window where the work can go deeper than it's ever been able to go before."‍ ‍

What Is Ketamine and How Does It Work?

Ketamine is a legal, safe, and well-researched medicine used to treat depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Its antidepressant effects work quickly — often within 1–2 hours — and can last up to two weeks. Ketamine works by blocking NMDA receptors and activating AMPA receptors, supporting the formation of new neural connections and strengthening brain circuits that regulate mood and stress. The result is enhanced neuroplasticity — a window of openness where deep therapeutic work can take root more effectively.

Option 1 — Psycholytic KAP Sessions (Low Dose)

Psycholytic KAP uses a low-dose sublingual ketamine protocol (typically 50–200mg) in a safe, structured therapeutic setting. This lighter dosing keeps you present and aware — able to actively explore thoughts, emotions, and memories in real time while the medicine supports your brain's natural healing capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions About KAP

Is ketamine legal?

Yes. Ketamine is an FDA-approved medication legally prescribed by licensed medical providers for therapeutic use. All ketamine used in KAP sessions is prescribed through a licensed medical partner — in my case, Journey Clinical.

Is KAP safe? KAP is considered safe when administered in a controlled therapeutic setting with proper medical oversight. All clients are medically screened by a prescriber before beginning. It is not appropriate for everyone — your Journey Clinical prescriber will determine eligibility.

How is KAP different from regular ketamine infusions? Ketamine infusions are typically administered in a medical clinic without a therapist present. KAP integrates the medicine with active psychotherapy — before, during, and after dosing — which research suggests significantly increases the depth and durability of outcomes.

Do I need a referral to start KAP? No referral needed. Reach out directly and we'll schedule an initial conversation to determine if KAP is a good fit for you.

What if I've never done psychedelic or medicine-assisted therapy before? Many of my KAP clients are starting for the first time. The preparation session is specifically designed to address questions, concerns, and intentions before any medicine is involved. You won't go into this unprepared.
